Surabaya National Pride

This past weekend I finally tried Hotel Majapahit, a vintage hotel I’ve been dying to visit after hearing countless rave reviews (including being named as one of the 10 best heritage hotel in the Indonesia by several local travel magazine). This hotel was build since 1910 and still look marvelous until right now.

The eksterior hotel didn’t disappoint and in fact, I already planning on going back with friends so we can try all the facility of the hotel, like the swimming pool, the spa and the restaurant sample even more dishes to try.

Lobby area

The warm antique lobby made for an ideal time to get gussied up – with a vintage dress, old suitcase, and good book with good coffee, This lobby proved comfortable even after a while they still look elegant and comfort at the same time.

Hall area

I’ve always had mixed feelings about a good building hall – it hints at the beginning of my favorite area, but there’s something bittersweet about the white art deco look at this hotel. The floor tile and the high ceiling kind remaind me of white long wedding dress in early thirties. I love the pendant lamp in all over the hall and the touch of the antique glass beyond the tall coloums. Everything well organized and I love the consitency.

Top floor area

Well, I still think its too early to judge this hotel from only one time though. There should be more in the building that I need to see and admire. It is a part of the Indonesian historical of hospitality industry. They were named as Orange Hotel before finally become Majapahit. This hotel was given to appreciate the Eropean Dutch era and great advancement of classic building that marked the glory of Surabaya city in early time. I heard they even flew some of the furniture and interior details to Surabaya from Dutch.
